Morning in Upper Blue Lake

Morning in Upper Blue Lake

With the morning sun starting to break through a layer of fog, I found a good spot to park then did a short hike to Upper Blue Lake. A fresh layer of snow had covered the North wall of the mountainside, while the sun was a welcome relief on this cold Fall like morning. Stopping to take this photograph, a layer of steam was rolling off the lake as a cold wind was flowing down the mountainside. I didn't spend a lot of time hanging out in this area, but picked a great morning to visit this part of the Colorado Rockies. http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/...

Hike Over Kebler Pass

Hike Over Kebler Pass

On a past hike over Kebler Pass it was getting late in the day and I was trying to make good time back to my truck, the sun had made it way between one of the mountain peaks causing a beam of light to shoot across the sky lighting up the Aspens along side me. The glow had such a cool look to it I wasted no time taking this one photograph, with a good hour of hiking still to go, I shoved the camera back in my pack then high tailed it down the mountain to try and get back before night started to set in for the evening. http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/...

Evening Under Peak 7 Stars

Evening Under Peak 7 Stars

Yesterday evening with not a cloud in the sky and mild temps it was too nice of a night to not get outside, I decided to head out for a evening hike under the stars so I made my way up to the base of Peak 7. With the headlamp blazing away I threw on the pack and made my way up the mountain side. This night was so still and quiet as the dry grass would crunch at my feet with each step, when I finally made it to this spot the Milky Way was blazing bright overhead. Setting up the camera gear I took this photograph of the chairlift sitting still under a star...

Amazing Sunset at Sprague Lake

Amazing Sunset at Sprague Lake

On a past trip to the East side of Rocky Mountain National Park I made my way to Sprague Lake, the clouds where still pretty thick on this evening and I wasn’t sure if I would get much of a sunset. After parking and grabbing my pack full of camera gear I set off on a short hike down the dirt trail, it didn’t take long to get to this spot where I decided to set up the camera and then waited. A good 20 minutes went by while a crazy cool wind was blowing through the area, about the time I was about to give up on the sunset the wind suddenly stopped and soon...

Drive into the West Elk Mountains

Drive into the West Elk Mountains

Driving the backroads around the West Elk Mountains in Central Colorado I came up to this location, the afternoon sun gave a soft light with the clouds that where passing overhead. Jumping out of my truck to stretch the legs and take in a deep breath of the fresh mountain air, I took this photograph of the dirt road that was heading into the mountains. This Fall has turned into a mix bag when it comes to weather, but that can also make for the best time to travel around the State. http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/

Aspens in Central Colorado

Aspens in Central Colorado

While hiking through a Aspens in central Colorado the forest floor was blowing up with every color, when I stopped for a well earned break I found a good log to sit down to grab a snack. While sitting at this spot a good gust of wind would blow through dropping leaves in every direction, before I stood up I pulled the camera out and snapped this shot looking through the Aspens. This trail turned out to be a good call to hike on this day, with very few people and picture perfect weather I could have asked for a better day. http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/

Telluride Mountain Lodge

Well after sunset I made my way down the sidewalk towards Telluride Mountain Lodge, the stars where starting to shine above as the blue lights in the trees lit the path ahead. Bundled up in my wool hat and down jacket the cold air on this night didn’t bother me, I decided to stop at this spot and set up the camera to capture this moment. This night was so still and quiet which made for a very relaxing one! http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/

Steep Mountain Hike

Steep Mountain Hike

Packed up with food, water and a lot of camera gear I set off on one steep mountain hike, a good couple of hours later I made it to this spot and was treated with a pretty amazing view of the San Juan Mountains. A chilly wind was blowing pretty good at this altitude, so I found a good spot to sit down by a big rock that was blocking the wind. When grabbing a bite to eat the clouds finally broke and the sun came out which was a welcome relief, once done I pulled the camera out of the pack and took this photograph looking Southeast over the mountain range....

Beautiful Evening in Telluride Village

Beautiful Evening in Telluride Village

Once the sun dropped behind the mountains I made my way into Telluride Village, there was still a tint of pink in the clouds while the lights of the buildings started to light up. When setting up for this shot a cold chill settled in around me, I wasted no time knowing I had only a few minutes of light left to pull off this photograph. About the time I took this shot only a handful of people where walking around on this evening, which made it a very relaxing place to visit during the off season. http://www.mjbauerphotography.net/colorado-gallery-1/

Camp for the Night

Camp for the Night

Well after sunset I finally found a spot to set up camp for the night, with my headlamp blazing bright on this cold night I wasted no time getting the tent up and the camera set up for some time lapse photography. Once I had everything in order I pointed the camera straight up from camp towards the mountains, pulling off a test shot I captured this photograph of the Milky Way breaking out of the clouds as a shooting star flew across the sky. With frozen figures and toes I wasted no time starting the camera remote then diving into the tent, it didn’t...
